Dubois County Commissioners approve H.E.L.P. owner-occupied rehabilitation contracts

Dubois County Commissioners Chad A. Blessinger and Nick Hostetter on Oct. 14 approved a series of contractor awards for the county's H.E.L.P. (Owner Occupied Rehabilitation) program following recommendations from the Indiana 15 Regional Planning Commission. The special meeting began at 9:00 a.m. at the Courthouse Annex in Jasper; Commissioner Serice Stenftenagel was absent.
Jenny Matheis, of the Indiana 15 Regional Planning Commission, presented lists of bids received for multiple homeowners and recommended specific awards. The recommendations covered a range of work including HVAC replacements, ADA accessibility modifications, radon mitigation, electrical work and roofing. Recommended contractors named in the awards included Jay's Specialty Services, John Collins General Contractors, Custom Creations Construction, Innovative Radon Solutions, Huntingburg Machine Works and Gogel Roofing.
Examples of recommended awards Matheis presented included: Baker ' Jay's Specialty Services for HVAC ($12,000); Drew ' Jay's Specialty Services for electrical ($2,500); Lueken ' Huntingburg Machine Works for HVAC ($6,190); Lukemeyer ' Gogel Roofing for roof work ($10,390); Nash ' John Collins General Contractors for ADA work ($7,250); Petry ' John Collins General Contractors for roof work ($17,000); and multiple radon mitigation awards to Innovative Radon Solutions ($1,600 each where bid).
Commission President Chad A. Blessinger moved to approve the recommended awards; the motion was seconded and carried unanimously. A separate motion to approve a Wagner roof bid to John Collins General Contractors for $19,000 was also moved, seconded and approved unanimously on the condition that county staff confirm the work had not already been completed by the homeowner.
The meeting record notes the possibility that the Wagner work may already have been completed; commissioners approved that award only if the work was found not to have been performed. With no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 9:29 a.m.
