Dubois County adopts ordinance lowering speed limit on County Road 490 West to 35 mph

The Dubois County Board of Commissioners unanimously adopted Ordinance 2025-13 on Oct. 20, 2025, reducing the county-maintained portion of County Road 490 West from 45 mph to 35 mph following an engineering speed study and at the request of the City of Jasper.
The Dubois County Board of Commissioners voted unanimously Oct. 20 to adopt Ordinance 2025-13, which lowers the maximum speed on county-maintained sections of County Road 490 West from Stewart Road to County Road 150 North to 35 miles per hour.
County Highway Engineer Levi Leffert presented the ordinance after conducting an engineering and traffic investigation and a speed study. Leffert told the board the City of Jasper had requested a lower speed on the contiguous section of 490 W, and that the county and city “agree it is best to try to keep both sections at the same speed.”
The ordinance amends Schedule II of Title VII, Chapter 72 of the Dubois County Code to set the 35-mph limit on the county-maintained portion of the roadway. A motion to approve the ordinance was made, seconded and carried unanimously.
The ordinance includes standard provisions about penalties under Indiana statute, separability, and an effective-date clause stating the ordinance is in full force and effect following passage and completion of any other legal requirements.
