Dubois County approves awards for H.E.L.P. owner-occupied rehabilitation projects

At the Oct. 6 meeting the commissioners reviewed and approved awards for multiple H.E.L.P. Owner-Occupied Rehabilitation project bids after Jenny Matheis of the Region 15 Planning Commission read the bids and recommended awards.
Matheis recommended electrical work be awarded to Lindsey’s Lumber & Building Supply and HVAC work to Kelly’s Heating & Cooling for specified homeowner projects; roofing work was recommended to GBE Construction Group for certain homes. The board moved to approve the recommendations as presented and the motion carried unanimously.
Matheis provided a program update: ten homes are in progress, 22 homes have been completed, four homes received no bids for any work and three homes currently have radon mitigation issues that must be addressed. She said she will seek guidance from the Office of Community and Rural Affairs (OCRA) about the radon mitigation since no bids were submitted for that work. All homes will receive a final inspection when work is complete.
The bids read aloud during the meeting included a range of subcontract amounts (electrical, HVAC, roofing), and Matheis noted a few exceeded the $20,000 per-home threshold required for different procurement handling.
