Dubois County backs IPAWS mass-notification system and enacts county burn ban

EMA Director Tammy Humbert asked the board Sept. 15 to support joining the Integrated Public Alert and Warning System (IPAWS), a federal gateway for geo-targeted emergency alerts, at an annual cost of $1,800 and with monthly testing as required by the program. Humbert said the county’s current Motorola RAVE system could be integrated with IPAWS and she will prepare a Standard Operating Policy (SOP) for the board’s review.
911 Director Stuart Wilson appeared and voiced support for adding IPAWS. The board voted to support the program pending creation of the SOP; the motion carried unanimously.
Separately, Humbert presented an Executive Order imposing a county-wide fire burn ban effective Sept. 15, 2025. The board approved the Executive Order, which remains in effect until further notice, by unanimous vote.
