Dubois County advances ADA plan, bridge review and schedules Bridge #29 closure for repairs

The Dubois County Board of Commissioners on Sept. 15 approved an independent Superstructure Design Agreement with American Structurepoint not to exceed $15,000 to review in-house bridge design methodology and create a template to improve quality assurance and efficiency.
Highway Engineer Levi Leffert recommended updating the county’s ADA Transition Plan — last substantially updated in 2012 — and said Lochmueller Group quoted an approximate cost of $35,000–$45,000 to produce an updated plan and timeline; the board gave consent to proceed and noted that an additional appropriation would be required to fund the work.
Leffert also listed paving projects still scheduled this year (Cuzco Road, Schnellville Road, Old Petersburg Road, 490 W and 580 N) and announced that Bridge #29, a 20-foot span over Wolfe Creek on 400 E (2.7 miles north of SR 56), will be closed on or after Sept. 22 for beam and deck replacement. The replacement will raise the bridge approximately 1 foot, require roadway transitions at each end, and is expected to take three to four weeks depending on weather or unforeseen issues; advanced closure signs and media notices will be posted.
Leffert reported a nearly completed concrete stream crossing on CR 850 W and recommended against closing a section of CR 250 N in Ireland after public input and review of crash data; the commissioners agreed with that recommendation.
