County holds bid and orders Slotten property secured by Sept. 2 after partial demolition

County Environmental Health Specialist Christina Pierini and Health Administrative Director Shawn Werner reported on the dilapidated building at 5398 E Main Street, Jasper, at the Aug. 18 meeting.
Pierini and Werner said the front wall has been removed but the back portion of the structure remains unsecure; rock was added to the parking area and photos were presented to the board. Because the scope of required work changed, the board opened a bid from Little Si’s Construction for $45,000 and held it under advisement rather than awarding a contract at the meeting.
The board instructed the property owner, identified in the minutes as Mr. Slotten, to continue work to address safety and fully secure the building by Sept. 2, 2025. The board discussed suggested actions and next steps with health department staff and county counsel.
