Dubois County approves paving change orders, schedules culvert work and stream-crossing replacements

Highway Engineer Levi Leffert reported on paving and structure work across the county. He presented change orders for two completed paving projects (project 25-03 decrease of $2,935.95 and project 25-04 decrease of $3,985.07); the board approved the change orders.
Leffert said E&B completed paving at two locations and C&R is finishing other projects. The 300 N box culvert is complete and the roadway has reopened; asphalt will be placed later this fall after settlement. Club Road was closed June 30 to begin a 12-by-8-foot concrete box culvert replacement, anticipated to take four to five weeks depending on weather. Leffert also recommended replacing a stream crossing near Holland Road East in-house (estimated $30,000–$35,000) and replacing the 850 W stream crossing in Cass Township (estimated $20,000–$23,000); the board approved proceeding with the 850 W replacement pending funding from the County Council.
Leffert reported he performed a speed study on Industrial Park Road after a request to lower the limit from 45 mph to 35 mph and recommended retaining a 45 mph limit; Commissioner Blessinger will inform the Town of Ferdinand. Soil borings for the Crossvine Solar Project are ongoing and Leffert plans to meet with project representatives about schedules and road-use agreements. Leffert also obtained Basic and Bridge Employee in Responsible Charge (ERC) certifications and will be the county’s primary ERC going forward.
Motions to approve change orders and to proceed with the 850 W replacement (pending Council funding) were duly seconded and carried as recorded in the minutes.
