Commissioners approve tractor purchase, lighting agreement and other routine items
Summary
The board approved purchase of a 2008 Kubota tractor (county to own, 4‑H to reimburse half), a 10‑year courthouse perimeter lighting agreement with Heart of Jasper, certified there is no covered bridge countywide, declared surplus equipment and approved meeting room AV equipment.
During routine business on June 16 the Dubois County Commissioners approved several operational and administrative items, including equipment purchases, agreements and certifications.
Park Superintendent Carson Kaiser requested joint purchase with the 4‑H Council of a 2008 Kubota M5040 tractor from Jeremiah Denton for $10,000; the county will own and insure the tractor and the 4‑H Council will reimburse half the cost. The motion to purchase carried unanimously and the County Attorney will prepare a bill of sale.
Auditor Sandra L. Morton presented the annual Covered Bridge Certification to the State Comptroller’s Office; the board certified that Dubois County does not have a covered bridge and approved the certification unanimously. The board also approved an agreement submitted by Kate Schwenk of Heart of Jasper — Main Street Jasper Inc. to place perimeter lighting on the courthouse annex for a 10‑year term.
The board declared the HVAC air compressor surplus at the request of custodian Scott Hopf and also gave Auditor Morton permission to order Owl Conference Technology equipment to install meeting‑room audio/video recording and live streaming. Commissioner Serice Stenftenagel reported the courthouse weathervane is not feasible to repair at county expense and invited public assistance or ideas for repurposing.
The board gave consensus to proceed with public hearing and notifications for a request to vacate an alley in the Town of Cuzco and approved $320 for County Attorney Gregory Schnarr to attend the Accelerate Indiana Municipalities 2025 Municipal Law Seminar.
