Solid Waste Management District reports truck purchases, grants and Patoka Lake tour

Carla Striegel-Winner, director of the Solid Waste Management District, briefed the Dubois County Council on May 19 on recent purchases, grants and outreach plans.
Striegel-Winner said the district purchased two trucks and distributed the SB131 report for review. She noted the district is governed by a separate board but that its budget is subject to County Council binding review.
The district reported receiving IDEM "Waste Here" grants to remove tires and a Community Recycling Grant Program award to support dumpster signage, brochures and campaign mailers. Striegel-Winner said the district is applying for a grant to develop a Materials Management Plan.
She also said she serves on the Patoka Lake Watershed Steering Committee and invited council members to a water‑plant and dam tour scheduled for June 17, 2025; invitations will be sent to members.
