Dubois County details paving, bridge repairs and upcoming 60‑day closure for Bridge 78

Highway Superintendent Donnie Lueken reported crack sealing was completed on Feb. 11 and that a delivered load of AE‑90 enables dura‑patch pothole repairs. Lueken also described an opportunity to bid on a used self‑propelled chipper and the board agreed to submit a bid.
Highway Engineer Levi Leffert provided project specifics: CCMG 2026‑01 paving (Club Road, 550 W and St. Anthony Road N) has all required documentation submitted to INDOT and a purchase order issued; paving is scheduled to begin on or after June 1, 2026. Leffert said bids for Bridge 78 (CR 600 W over the Patoka River) will be opened and read aloud on March 2, 2026; the project will require a full road closure of approximately 60 days once a contractor is selected, and the county will provide details in advance of the closure.
Leffert also reported Bridge 116 (CR 820 E) was closed Feb. 9 to begin beam and deck replacement and that crews are currently ahead of schedule; the deck is expected to be poured later in the week and the bridge is anticipated to reopen the first week of March, with a separate one‑day closure later to install asphalt approaches. Two additional structures (Bridges 107 and 240) were identified for rigid 1.5‑inch concrete deck overlays to address transverse cracking, delamination and spalling; quotes for that work will open in March. SJCA began bridge inspections on Feb. 16 and will continue them in the coming weeks.
Leffert said Vialytics, an AI‑driven roadway management system, will present at the March 2 meeting to demonstrate its roadway assessment and maintenance‑planning tools.
Impact and next steps: residents should expect planned closures and short‑term lane or road interruptions; the county will announce specific closure dates after contractor award and will circulate information about the Vialytics presentation prior to the March 2 meeting.
