Dubois County authorizes creation of two deputy sheriff positions pending council funding

The Dubois County Board of Commissioners on Feb. 17 approved a motion to create two deputy sheriff positions for road duty during noon‑to‑midnight shifts, pending funding approval by the County Council.
Commissioner Chad A. Blessinger opened the discussion and Sheriff Tom Kleinhelter provided supporting data showing the need for additional officers to address calls and enable proactive policing. After review of that data, the board reached consensus that a need exists and a motion to create the two positions was made, seconded and carried unanimously. The wage classification for the positions was set at MPOLE II.
The creation of the positions is contingent on funding from the County Council; the board’s action authorizes the positions administratively but does not finalize hiring until the Council provides funding.
