Dubois County assigns two tax-sale certificates to Huntingburg for redevelopment

The Dubois County Board of Commissioners on Feb. 17 adopted Resolution 2026-02 to offer the county’s tax-sale certificates for two parcels at 410 N. Washington Street in Huntingburg to the City of Huntingburg for redevelopment and blight elimination.

County Attorney Gregory Schnarr presented the resolution, which cites Indiana Code 6‑1.1‑24 et seq. and authorizes assignment of tax-sale certificates held by Dubois County to a municipality for public purposes. The parcels involved are listed in the resolution as parcel numbers 19‑11‑34‑402‑225.000‑020 and 19‑11‑34‑402‑230.000‑020, both associated with the common address 410 N. Washington Street, Huntingburg.

According to the resolution text presented to the board, the tracts had been offered at tax sale and did not receive sufficient bids to satisfy delinquent taxes, assessments, penalties and costs; the county therefore holds the tax-sale certificates. The resolution also notes the tracts are encumbered by special assessments for costs incurred by the city in enforcing ordinance violations.

The board voted to approve the resolution as presented and authorized the President of the Board of Commissioners to execute the Assignment of Tax Sale Certificate and any related documents necessary to effectuate the transfer pursuant to Indiana Code. The resolution was recorded as adopted on Feb. 17, 2026.

Next steps: the county will execute assignment paperwork and coordinate with the City of Huntingburg on the city’s redevelopment and blight‑elimination plans for the properties.
