Judges, administrator and commissioners disagree on what court security construction can be reduced

Commissioner Roy Britz told the board Aug. 4 that he met with Judge Daavettila and that the judge did not approve of decisions made by a prior administrator concerning district court security. Britz said about $280,000 remains from previously approved funds for the project and that staff and juror safety are the judge’s primary concerns.
Administrator Nickole Jollimore and Judge Brennan told commissioners they did not know which planned construction items could be trimmed to reduce costs. Chairman Tom Tikkanen asked commissioners and staff to review the project plans and scheduled a committee meeting to identify possible reductions and next steps.
Faith Morrison, speaking during public comment, said the court security changes should be considered in the context of a possible jail millage.
No formal action was taken at the Aug. 4 work session; the board directed staff to convene a committee to reconcile priorities and return recommendations.
