County staff say BS&A financial software will be obsolete; cloud option quoted at about $200,000 a year

Teresa Hill, a county staff member, told the Houghton County Board of Commissioners Aug. 4 that the county’s current BS&A software version will soon be obsolete and “will not work” without an upgrade. Hill said a cloud-hosting proposal would cost about $200,000 per year.
Chairman Tom Tikkanen asked Hill to email commissioners bullet points listing costs and the decision timeline; Commissioner Gretchen Janssen noted the vendor’s proposal is valid through Sept. 29 and asked that the matter be on the Aug. 12 agenda. Chelsea, a county staff member, asked for a formal recommendation at that meeting.
The board did not take action at the Aug. 4 work session but directed staff to return with a recommendation and supporting numbers by the Aug. 12 meeting so the board can determine whether to approve the cloud migration and any recurring budget impacts.
