Houghton County OKs $172,813 contract for District Court security renovations

The Houghton County Board of Commissioners voted Oct. 31 to accept a $172,813 contract with MJO to complete security renovations at the District Court, using American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds.
Chairman Tom Tikkanen said the renovations are funded with ARPA money and that the contractor was waiting to start work. Commissioner Glenn Anderson asked whether any addendums existed; Todd LaRoux replied there were none. Anderson also stated the renovations could be up to $200,000, while the contract approved was for $172,813.
Commissioner Anderson made the motion to accept the contract; Commissioner Roy Britz seconded. The motion carried 4-0 with Commissioners Anderson, Britz, Tikkanen and Keranen voting yes and Commissioner Gretchen Janssen absent. Magistrate Nickole Jollimore spoke during public comment to thank the board for approving the security upgrades to the District Court offices.
The meeting minutes do not include a timeline for work or contract start date. The board adjourned at 10:40 a.m.
