Calhoun County board creates Opioid Settlement Emerging Needs Fund and approves $5.08 million in claims

The Calhoun County Board of Commissioners on Feb. 19 approved a new Opioid Settlement Emerging Needs Fund and a claims payable listing covering Jan. 29–Feb. 11, 2026.
Administrator/Controller Kelli Scott told the board that the county’s opioid settlement payments are expected to average about $600,000 a year over 18 years and presented a resolution to create an Emerging Needs Fund that would appropriate an initial $200,000 to provide ongoing, application-based support for community organizations addressing urgent needs related to the opioid crisis. Scott said legal agreements and spending procedures are in place to ensure accountability while allowing flexibility for timely community responses. The board approved the resolution (Res.026-2026) on a 7–0 roll call vote.
Later the board approved a claims payable listing totaling $5,084,685.10 for the period Jan. 29 through Feb. 11, 2026 (Res.027-2026). Comr. Dominic Oo moved approval and Comr. Matt Saxton seconded; the roll call vote was 7–0.
