Calhoun County board approves local road agreements and awards roadside mowing contract

The Calhoun County Board of Commissioners on Feb. 19 approved 2026 local road project agreements and awarded a roadside mowing contract as part of a consent and new-business package.
Kristine Parsons, managing director of the Road Department, said the consent item funds exceed $6 million and will support work in 12 townships. Administrator/Controller Kelli Scott thanked State Representative Steve Frisbie for his work to secure additional road funding and noted ongoing township outreach to plan the 2026 construction season.
The board approved the consent agenda item that includes CCRD agreements for local road projects (Res.024-2026) on a voice vote. Later in the meeting the board voted 7–0 on a roll call to award RFP#103-26 for roadside mowing to Jablonski & Sons of Allegan County; Administrator Scott said the contractor will perform two mowing rounds (at season start and end) while the Road Department will provide interim maintenance as needed.
Commissioner Matt Saxton said he had reached out to Tekonsha Township to re-establish communications after the township's last local road project in 2017. The approvals were presented as part of routine consent and procurement processes; the board recorded unanimous approval on both the consent agreement and the mowing contract.
What comes next: county staff will coordinate contract execution with Jablonski & Sons and continue township meetings, including a Township Supervisor’s Meeting the following week to prepare for the construction season.
