Fulton County amends HR manual provisions and upgrades veterans director to full-time benefit status

The Fulton County Board of Commissioners voted Nov. 25 to accept proposed changes to Section 212 'Employee Benefits' of the county HR Manual and to approve a change in status for Veterans Affairs Director Richard Newman.
HR Administrator Mary Huston presented proposed changes to employee benefits policy and was asked to return with formal amendments for official approval at a later meeting. Separately, the board approved a motion to authorize Director Richard Newman to work the equivalent of 30 hours per week, making him eligible for full-time benefits in light of added state duties related to the Disabled Veterans Real Estate Tax Exemption.
Both motions were recorded as passing unanimously. The HR manual amendment was accepted for further drafting and formalization; the board did not adopt final policy language on Nov. 25. The staffing-hours action for the veterans director takes effect immediately for payroll and benefits purposes as reflected in the meeting minutes.
The board directed staff to bring finalized HR manual language back for a subsequent meeting and to implement the veterans-hours change in accordance with county payroll procedures.
