Grant County commissioners approve $31,247.36 in bills, authorize small road dirt payments

The Grant County Board of Commissioners on June 19 approved county bills totaling $31,247.36 and recorded payments to individuals for placed dirt as part of road maintenance business.

Commissioner Marty Meyer moved to approve bills totaling $31,247.36; the motion was seconded by Commissioner Al Roy Hochhalter and the minutes record that the bills were approved. The minutes list vendors and amounts, including Nutrien Ag Solutions ($18,291.90), GS Publishing LLC ($3,366.18), Matthew Bender & Co. ($81.60), Thomson Reuters ($356.30) and a range of smaller payments. Road Superintendent Jon Alt met with the board to discuss road maintenance agreements. The minutes record two separate motions to pay for dirt placement: one motion (moved by Meyer, seconded by Zenker) "to pay Dusty Hochhalter $4.00 for 75 yards of dirt" and a second motion (moved by Meyer, seconded by Hochhalter) "to pay David Kallis $4.00 for 25 yards of dirt." The minutes do not clarify whether the $4.00 is a per-yard rate or the total payment amount.

The board also approved the agenda and the June 5, 2024 meeting minutes, and reviewed the treasurer’s report. Chairman Alton Zenker adjourned the meeting at 11:14 p.m. The minutes note upcoming meetings on July 3 and July 17, 2024, and that the courthouse will be closed July 4–5 in observation of Independence Day and Juneteenth.
