Morton County Commission approves easements, leases and appointments; accepts park director retirement

At its June 24 meeting the Morton County Commission handled a range of administrative and personnel matters, approving payments for easements tied to bridge replacements, authorizing a gravel pit lease, making several board appointments, adopting a flag policy and accepting a park director’s retirement.
Commissioner Buckley moved and Commissioner Tokach seconded to approve negotiated offers totaling $4,060.44 for permanent right of way, maintenance easement and temporary easements required for replacement of Bridges 30-152-35.0 and 30-158-27.0; the motion carried unanimously. Commissioner Tokach moved and Commissioner Buckley seconded to authorize the County Engineer to execute a gravel pit lease for the Kalberer pit for 2025 at a rate recorded in the minutes as $2.50 per yard; that motion also passed with all voting aye. The minutes list the dollar total for the easement offers and record the lease rate as shown.
The commission appointed Linda Beckler to a three-year term on the library board (term expiring 6/30/28), and appointed Randy Graner, Ken Geiger and Jamie Wetsch to three-year Park Board terms expiring 6/30/28. The board appointed Lynn Kinnischtzke to a six-year term on the Special Assessment Commission expiring 6/30/31. Commissioner Zachmeier moved and Commissioner Morrell seconded to approve the Flag Policy as presented; that motion carried.
The commission authorized the War Dead Committee to proceed with a final concept for the purpose of fundraising and further authorized the committee to engage in an RFP process once it has raised $500,000. Commissioner Morrell moved and Commissioner Buckley seconded a motion to accept Park Director Nilsen’s letter of retirement and to thank him for his years of service; the motion carried.
The minutes also note that county funds expended from June 11 through June 24, 2025 totaled $3,122,259.75 and that a detailed list of expenditures is available for public inspection at the Morton County Auditor’s Office during regular business hours. Chairman Boehm adjourned the meeting at 8:37 p.m.
