Nelson County Commission approves minutes, authorizes ditch-mowing notice and okays bills

Chairman Cody Johnson called the Nelson County Commission to order on Aug. 20. Commissioners approved the minutes for Aug. 6 and Aug. 14 and adopted the agenda as amended.
During public comment, resident Mary Kay Schuh raised concerns related to a park discussion. Highway Superintendent Curt Loe joined the meeting for Road & Bridge business; commissioners discussed notice for mowing road ditches and approved a motion to publish a notice in each September edition of the Lakota American directing landowners to mow ditches. Paul Bjornson of KLJ provided project updates for county projects.
Auditor Nathan Parks presented the 2024 mill levy sheet and reminded the board that the public hearing for the Nelson County budget is scheduled for the first meeting in October. The commission also approved the bills as presented. Commissioner Aaron Mork moved to publish the ditch-mowing notice and to approve ballot language on a separate item; Commissioner Cameron Swenson seconded those motions and all votes were recorded as yes.
The meeting concluded with a motion to adjourn that carried unanimously. Minutes were signed by Nathan Parks, Nelson County Auditor, and Chairman Cody Johnson.
