Morton County Commission approves routine business, backs 10-year Mandan Renaissance Zone extension

The Morton County Commission met Aug. 26, 2025, at the Morton County Courthouse in Mandan and unanimously approved a series of routine items, including a letter supporting a 10‑year extension of the Mandan Renaissance Zone Program, several property tax abatements and adoption of Policy 700‑003.
Chairman Nathan Boehm opened the meeting at 5:30 PM. Commissioners Zachmeier, Buckley and Morrell, Auditor Dawn R. Rhone, States Attorney Koppy and Sheriff Kirchmeier were recorded present; Commissioner Tokach was absent.
The commission approved the meeting agenda, the minutes of the Aug. 7, 2025 regular meeting, and bills and payroll. The motion to approve bills and payroll passed on a roll call vote with all voting aye.
On economic development, the commission voted to provide a letter of support for an additional ten‑year extension of the Mandan Renaissance Zone Program. The motion was moved by Commissioner Morrell and seconded by Commissioner Buckley and carried with all voting aye.
The commission approved three batches of property tax abatements: #7133–7137, #7138–7140 and #7141–7143. Each abatement batch was moved and seconded by commissioners as recorded; all motions carried with all voting aye.
The body also voted to adopt Policy 700‑003, titled “County Highway and Park Shops.” Commissioner Morrell moved the motion; Commissioner Zachmeier seconded and the motion carried with all voting aye.
Auditors reported the total of county funds expended from Aug. 8 through Aug. 26, 2025 equals $689,531.12. A detailed list of funds expended by check is available for public inspection during regular business hours at the Morton County Auditor’s Office, the commission noted.
Commissioner Morrell moved to adjourn; the meeting adjourned at 6:24 PM. The minutes show signatures by Chairman Nathan Boehm and County Auditor Dawn R. Rhone.
