Morton County Commission adopts land-use amendment, approves subdivision, accepts LEC bids and several routine items

On Oct. 9 the Morton County Commission adopted a Land Use Code amendment for carbon dioxide collection facilities, approved the Vakkert Sted Second Subdivision final plat and zoning change, accepted Law Enforcement Center bids increasing the project total to $930,000, and passed several consent items including contracts, abatements and an elections MOU.
The Morton County Commission on Oct. 9 approved a package of routine agenda items, adopted a land-use code amendment addressing carbon dioxide collection facilities and accepted bids for the county Law Enforcement Center (LEC) project, increasing the previously approved total to $930,000.
At the start of the meeting Chairman Nathan Boehm confirmed attendance and the commission approved the meeting agenda, the Sept. 23 minutes, bills and payroll, and abatements #7153-7154. The board also authorized the chairman to sign a contract with Eagleview.
Commissioner Buckley moved and Commissioner Zachmeier seconded approval of the final plat for Vakkert Sted Second Subdivision and a zoning map amendment from Agricultural to Estate after finding the subdivision conforms to Article 7 of the Morton County Land Use Code and the county’s 2045 Comprehensive Plan. Commissioner Zachmeier moved and Commissioner Buckley seconded adoption of Morton County Land Use Code Amendment Section 5-300 governing Carbon Dioxide Collection Facilities; the motion passed unanimously.
The board accepted bids presented by the sheriff for the LEC project — NW Contracting as general contractor, Butler for the generator, Lindtech for boilers and HA Thompson & Frontier Electric as subcontractors — and increased the total for the previously approved amount to $930,000 on a roll call vote. The sheriff presented the bid list to the commission before the vote.
Other routine actions approved included: appointing Commissioner Buckley as the 2025 State Fair delegate (Morrell moved; Buckley seconded), approving a memorandum of understanding with the North Dakota Secretary of State related to elections (Buckley moved; Morrell seconded), and setting minimum sale prices for delinquent tax property as presented (Morrell moved; Zachmeier seconded). The commission reported total county fund expenditures of $1,307,061.26 for Sept. 24–Oct. 9, 2025 and adjourned at 7:05 p.m.
