Grant County commissioners approve bills, hire road operator and sign off on multiple abatement applications

The Grant County Board of Commissioners approved routine business on March 20, 2024, including claims payments, a personnel hire for the road department and multiple tax abatement applications.
The board voted to approve bills totaling $11,379.31 (motion by Commissioner Marty Meyer, second by Commissioner Al Roy Hochhalter). The minutes list vendor payments including Pump Systems ($3,466.61), MDU ($1,479.65), WRT ($1,088.11) and others. The treasurer’s report was presented and accepted.
In personnel action, Commissioner Al Roy Hochhalter moved and Commissioner Marty Meyer seconded a motion to hire Steve Heinert as a full-time truck driver/operator at a rate of $21.32 per hour with a start date of April 1, 2024. The motion carried on a roll-call vote: Meyer—aye, Hochhalter—aye, Zenker—aye.
The board approved multiple abatement applications for 2023 property tax credits. Approved items recorded in the minutes include parcels 05661250 & 05661750 (Disabled Veteran Credit), parcel 61074100 (Homestead Credit), parcel 62106100 (Homestead Credit), parcel 61070400 (Homestead Credit) and an amended application for parcels 61077100, 61077000 and 61077200 to apply 100% homestead credit. Each application was approved by recorded roll-call votes with all three members voting aye in the minutes.
County Auditor Sara Meier updated the board on the TSED grant application process and said she will contact political subdivisions and nonprofits that submitted projects for additional documentation and project plans. The board asked Patrick Diehl to contact the State Historical Registry about replacing the Medicine Rock historical site sign. Auditor Meier said she will advertise the deputy auditor position opening. The meeting adjourned at 1:56 p.m.; the minutes list the next scheduled meetings as April 3 and April 17, 2024.
