Dunn County commissioners approve routine business, continue subdivision grant program and approve $10,000 donation to sheriff's association

The Dunn County Board of County Commissioners met Jan. 7 and approved a series of routine and administrative actions, including continuing the county's subdivision grant program and a $10,000 donation to the Dunn County Sheriff's Association.
Auditor Sally Whittingham opened housekeeping business with approval of the Dec. 17, 2025 minutes and the Jan. 7 agenda, which included an addition for the Tax Director's Office. The board approved a list of county bank depositories for 2026–2027 (Bravera Bank; 1st International Bank & Trust; The Union Bank; Dakota Community Bank & Trust) and then reviewed and approved departmental vouchers spanning general, road and other funds.
The board heard project updates from Northern Plains Engineering and Bartlett & West and then addressed road-department business. Road Superintendent Terry Schwartzenberger asked whether the county wished to continue subdivision grants; Commissioner Allen Heiser moved and Commissioner Greg Pelton seconded to continue the subdivision grant program per county policy, and the motion carried on a unanimous roll-call vote.
Schwartzenberger also requested approval to donate a retired crack sealer to the City of Killdeer; the board approved the donation on a unanimous roll-call vote.
Tax Director Holly Hutchison requested authority to contract temporary help while she recruits a replacement; the board authorized contracting assistance as needed. Auditor Whittingham presented a beer and liquor license for McKenzie Bay Marina and four quit claim deeds to return properties to owners who paid taxes prior to a tax auction; both items were approved by unanimous votes.
The board conducted officer elections: Commissioner Tracey Dolezal was elected chair and Commissioner Greg Pelton was elected vice chair. Commissioners also approved portfolio assignments for 2026 and reappointed members to the Planning & Zoning Board and the Dunn County Park Board.
The board voted unanimously to donate $10,000 to the Dunn County Sheriff's Association after hearing from Casey Brosten and Beth Isaak, who described the nonprofit's role in supporting officers, their families and community events.
