Cavalier County approves pavement testing, discusses KLJ easement work for DOT-funded bridges

Road Supervisor Terry Johnson, Road Foreman Sheldon Romfo and engineer Jeff Daley of KLJ presented an updated pavement-improvement map and engineering options to the Cavalier County Board of Commissioners on June 4.
The board approved hiring Braun Intertec to perform pavement testing on County 17 and County 55 for a quoted amount of $6,151. Jeff Daley presented a separate contract proposal from KLJ to obtain right-of-way easements for four bridge projects funded by the North Dakota Department of Transportation (DOT). Daley said three projects are fully funded by DOT and a fourth is 80 percent DOT-funded, leaving easement costs as the county’s responsibility.
Commissioners asked whether the road supervisor and the State’s Attorney could handle the easement work and requested KLJ provide hourly rates for the service; no action was taken on the KLJ contract at this meeting. The board also set a requested deadline of Nov. 1, 2024, for contractors responding to gravel project bid requests, with the option to accept or reject bids after that date.
Romfo told the board the summer oil crew had started, cement would soon be poured for a storage building in Vang, and crews would begin work on the Langdon shop parking lot in the industrial park. The board also executed a previously accepted bid by signing a contract with 3D Specialties for an upcoming safety project.
