Commissioners approve request to ask neighboring counties for $10,000 hosting fees for NVHSZ

The Cavalier County Board of Commissioners on Oct. 1 approved a motion to seek annual hosting fees from two partner counties to help cover costs of serving as host for the Northern Valley Human Service Zone (NVHSZ).
Jill Denault, director of NVHSZ, told the commissioners she opposed charging Walsh and Pembina counties for hosting services. Commissioner Stanley Dick suggested the host county be reimbursed, proposing each partner county pay $10,000 annually or that hosting be transferred to another county. Commissioner Nick Moser moved to approve Stanley Dick presenting a formal request that Walsh and Pembina counties each pay $10,000 annually starting in 2024, with the amount to be reviewed every two years; Commissioner Greg Goodman seconded the motion and it carried.
The motion records only the board’s request to present the proposal to the partner counties; it does not bind the partner counties to pay nor does it change NVHSZ governance.
