During its Jan. 13 meeting, Sumter County Council received committee reports and brief staff and public updates.
Chairman James T. McCain Jr. reported that the Fiscal, Tax & Property Committee held a special meeting at the Sumter County Airport that included an airport tour followed by an executive session to discuss contractual matters; the minutes state that no action was taken and the meeting was informational only.
Committee member Carlton B. Washington reported that, after review of established criteria, Merlene‑Nixon Road was selected to advance to Step II of the application process. The council recorded a motion and second to approve the accepted preliminary application submitted by residents of Merlene‑Nixon Road.
County Administrator Gary Mixon thanked council and staff for their collaboration on the private road acceptance process. During public comment, Ms. Josephine Young urged better communication with constituents about ongoing and upcoming county projects.
The meeting then adjourned at 6:22 p.m.; the clerk certified the minutes as a true and accurate record.
