Jefferson Davis Parish Tourist Commission forms search committee for director amid quorum shortfall

The Jefferson Davis Parish Tourist Commission met Jan. 14, 2025, but did not have the required number of members to establish a quorum, and the board agreed to defer formal ratification of actions to its Feb. 11, 2025 meeting, minutes show.

Sheila Chapman, chairman of the commission, called the meeting to order and led the prayer; Mayor Henry Guinn led the pledge. According to the minutes, Greg Marcantel, CPA, instructed the commission that business could proceed despite the lack of a quorum and that votes taken would be ratified at the next meeting.

During the session the commission moved to approve the minutes from Dec. 10, 2024. "It was moved by Kori Myers, seconded by Kayla Doga, and passed unanimously to approve the minutes of December 10, 2024, as presented," the minutes record.

The November 2024 financial report was not available for the meeting and no financial details were presented in the minutes. No members of the public spoke during the public-comments portion of the agenda.

Under old business, Chapman reported that a search committee has been formed to recruit a new tourist director and that an advertisement for the position was expected to be posted by Friday, Jan. 17, 2025. The minutes record no further details about the size or membership of the committee or the job posting content.

A motion to adjourn was made by Austin Bertrand, seconded by Kori Myers, and recorded as passed unanimously. Chapman certified the minutes for the Jan. 14 meeting. The commission will meet again Feb. 11, 2025, when actions taken on Jan. 14 are to be ratified.
