Creed Romano, CEO/President of the Jeff Davis Economic Development Commission, said the EDC is planning a retreat involving the EDC, Tourist Commission and Chamber and emphasized the need for ITEP (Industrial Tax Exemption Program) training for local businesses.
Romano also listed Project Evergreen and an initiative the minutes identify as "Legisgator" among topics for future development and coordination. The commission discussed forming or using an evaluation committee; Chairman Ronnie Petree and Judy Petry discussed committee membership and evaluation criteria.
Beau Hearod gave an overview of the state of insurance in Louisiana during the meeting, which officials said is relevant to business recruitment and risk planning. The commission debated which social media platforms would best support economic-development communication and decided to use LinkedIn and Facebook.
Petree proposed developing a business "scorecard" to show growth in the parish; members discussed the scorecard concept but did not record any formal adoption or metrics at the meeting. The minutes indicate these items will be part of ongoing coordination and follow-up work among the EDC, local boards and staff.
