Tift County approves bridge contract, lighting and safety equipment among consent agenda items

Tift County commissioners on Nov. 10 approved a slate of contracts, grants and ordinances that county officials said fund local infrastructure and public-safety needs.
The board awarded a Notice of Award and contract to Southern Concrete Company for the Overflow Bridge Replacement Project on Omega‑Eldorado Road for $1,252,017.28 to be funded from SPLOST VI and LMIG. The board also approved a Watkins & Associates LLC addendum for contract administration of that project for $26,406.90 from SPLOST VI.
Other consent approvals included two Georgia Power easements to relocate a power pole at the entrance to EB Hamilton totaling $34,266.64 (ARPA funding), a Georgia Power lighting services agreement for the Baldwin Drive basketball courts with an initial cost of $17,765.46 (ARPA) and monthly service of $141.92 (General Fund), and an Avigilon video-surveillance installation by Mobile Communications America for the Tift Gazette remodeling project for $42,798.41 (SPLOST VI). The board also ratified a $17,100 grant from the Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation Inc. to purchase three positive-pressure ventilation fans.
The consent agenda included two contracts to support a county sales tax analysis: a $1,500 agreement with Valdosta State University’s Center for Regional Impact and an agreement with Jones Economic Consulting LLC (Dr. Luke Jones) not to exceed $9,000, both funded from the General Fund.
Commissioner Donnie Hester moved to approve the consent agenda; Commissioner Stan Stalnaker seconded and the motion carried 5-0 with Chairman Tony McBrayer voting.
The approvals place several projects into procurement and construction phases; the bridge replacement and associated contract-administration addendum are the largest single expenditures listed.
