Tift County approves $3.37 million TIA-funded Hunt Road street and drainage project

The Tift County Board of Commissioners approved a Transportation Investment Act (TIA) project agreement for Hunt Road improvements during its Dec. 8 regular session.
County Manager Jim Carter told the board that the Georgia Department of Transportation had approved Tift County to self-perform the project and to move it up on the TIA project list because of new construction in the area. "This project is 100% TIA funded. Cost is $3,369,000," Carter said. The scope includes preliminary engineering, right-of-way acquisition, construction and utility work.
Commissioner Melissa Hughes moved to approve Resolution No. 2025-30; Commissioner Paul Webb seconded the motion, which carried 6-0 with the chairman voting. The approval authorizes county staff to proceed with the TIA-funded phases described by Carter.
The action means county crews may self-perform the work rather than relying entirely on outside contractors, per the GDOT approval Carter described. The board did not provide a construction start date in the meeting record and offered no additional funding breakdown in the session; those details were not specified.
