Screven County commissioners approve agenda and minutes; public commenter asks about dumping, staff give brief updates

The Screven County Board of Commissioners convened at 9:00 a.m. on Sept. 24 and moved through a short agenda that included approval of the agenda and minutes, a public comment question about dumping rules, staff updates and formal actions on two items.
Vice-Chairman J.C. Warren called the meeting to order and led the invocation and Pledge of Allegiance. Commissioner Allison Willis moved to approve the agenda; Commissioner Mike Dixon seconded and the motion carried unanimously. Willis also moved to approve the Aug. 27 and Sept. 10 minutes; Dixon seconded and the motion carried unanimously.
During public comment Rev. Uley Robbins asked what is allowed to be dumped at county sites and the transfer station; the minutes do not record a response. Under new business the board awarded a $906,470 bid to Powell & Company for the Ag Center Project and adopted a resolution waiving transfer station fees for citizens within the Screven County Solid Waste Collection and Disposal Special Service District; both motions passed unanimously.
Commissioner Willis gave an update on the animal shelter, the Road Superintendent reported on roads, and County Manager Lori Burke said the county is monitoring a hurricane in the Gulf. Vice-Chairman J.C. Warren adjourned the meeting at 9:20 a.m.
The minutes do not record discussion of implementation details for the contract award or the fee-waiver resolution; the resolution text and any operational instructions are not included in the minutes.
