The Polk County Board of Commissioners elected Commissioner Chuck Thaxton as chairman and Commissioner Michael Gravett as vice-chairman during its regular meeting on Jan. 6, 2026.
County Attorney Brad McFall opened nominations for chairman; Commissioner Hal Floyd nominated Commissioner Chuck Thaxton and, with no other nominations, Thaxton was elected unanimously. McFall then solicited nominees for vice-chair and Commissioner Hal Floyd nominated Commissioner Michael Gravett; Gravett was likewise elected by unanimous vote.
The elections followed routine organizational procedure at the start of the calendar year. Commissioner Thaxton thanked the board for its confidence and said he would begin work on committee assignments, noting the board will operate under the 2025 committee schedule until the new assignments are finalized.
The board conducted other organizational and regular-business items later in the meeting, including approval of the agenda, minutes, and a slate of departmental and financial items.
