Commission denies RV and boat storage rezoning amid flooding and spot-zoning concerns

Long County commissioners on Dec. 2 denied a request to rezone a parcel at 3201 Tibet Highway from RR to C1 for use as an RV and boat storage facility.
Neighbors including the resident at 3201 Tibet Road and local resident Al Paderick opposed the proposal at the public hearing, citing concerns that raising the site's elevation for storage could worsen drainage and flooding onto adjacent properties, that frequent trailer traffic would damage dirt roads and create safety risks, and that the use would be incompatible with surrounding rural residential, agricultural and forestry properties. Paderick characterized approval as spot zoning that could set an undesirable precedent.
Commissioner John Reddish moved to deny rezoning request Z082825-04; Commissioner Benji Strickland seconded and the motion passed unanimously.
