County updates: Family Connections, parent engagement programs and Trunk or Treat event

Representatives from county programs briefed the Georgetown‑Quitman County Commission on community services and events during the Oct. 14 meeting.

Sara Crumbs of Family Connections reported that senior produce delivery is scheduled for the third Thursday of each month at 10:30 a.m. at the Community Center, described a Vibrant Communities grant submitted for summer reading, Riverfest and a community music event, said staff helped residents with utility assistance, and noted coordination with schools on parent sessions addressing bullying and career day. Crumbs said she is attending a student absenteeism forum in Griffin and is working with Jonathan Klein on a county food pantry.

Amy Self, the parent/teacher community engagement coordinator, said Family Connections provided books to children for Grandparents’ Day, cited a favorable state report on absentee rates, described a partnership with Rotary on the S.W.A.G. (Student Who Achieves Goals) program, and said she is providing training for the community and parents on the risks associated with artificial intelligence and promoting a shared online calendar tool.

Mrs. Belva Dorsey‑Mott updated the board on Enrichment Services for the county. The board also announced a Trunk or Treat event scheduled for Oct. 31, 2025, from 5:00–7:00 p.m.

The minutes do not include program budgets, grant award amounts, or detailed schedules beyond the recurring produce delivery and the Oct. 31 community event.
