Summary
At its regular meeting, the Georgetown-Quitman County Commission approved a Tax Assessor Board appointment, granted final plat approval for Tanglewood Trail and approved Vice Chairman Kinsey’s appointment to a regional EMS board; commissioners deferred the BSI Engineering contract for attorney review.
The Georgetown-Quitman County Commission on Aug. 12, 2025, handled routine business including several appointments, the approval of a subdivision final plat and the deferral of a contract to the county attorney for review.
Commissioners approved the nomination of Lavaughn Jackson to the Tax Assessor Board after a motion by Willie H. Bussey and a second by Richard Baggett; the recorded vote lists Yes — Bussey, Kinsey, Baggett and Green. The commission also approved the final plat for the Tanglewood Trail Subdivision (motion by David Kinsey, second by Richard Baggett) with recorded votes of Yes — Bussey, Kinsey, Baggett and Green.
Vice Chairman David Kinsey told the commission he would be willing to serve on the Region 7 EMS board; the commission approved that appointment on a motion by Commissioner Jerry Green with a second by Baggett and votes recorded as Yes — Bussey, Kinsey, Baggett and Green. No appointment was made to the DBHDD Region 6 board; commissioners continue to seek a candidate. The commission took no action on an Area Agency on Aging appointment and deferred the BSI Engineering contract, asking County Manager Jason Weeks to send the contract to the county attorney for review and to add the item to the next called meeting agenda.
In his manager’s report, Jason Weeks gave an EMS update for July: 47 calls (24 transports, 15 refusals, 8 cancellations), an average response time of eight minutes, eight mutual-aid calls given and five mutual-aid calls received. Weeks also said renovation of the election board office is under way; the general contractor (Brad Stephens) provided a construction quote of $85,000 that does not include electrical and HVAC work and Weeks estimated the total project cost will likely be between $140,000 and $150,000 (final costs pending). Family Connections reported submitting a $10,000 youth-development grant and planning a senior produce delivery; the library reported a successful summer reading program and a back-to-school supply giveaway.
The meeting concluded with routine approvals of check registers and prior meeting minutes and adjourned at 7:36 p.m.
