Floyd County commissioners back request to raise hotel-motel tax to 8% and redirect funds

On Dec. 9 the Floyd County Board of Commissioners approved a resolution asking the state to change the hotel/motel tax statute to increase the tax rate from 6% to 8% and to redirect revenue that currently supports the Forum River Center to the Agriculture Center.
County Manager Jamie McCord presented the resolution. Commissioner Scotty Hancock moved for approval; Commissioner David Thornton seconded. The motion carried 4-0.
The commission's action is a local request to change the statute; any change in the tax rate or fund distribution would require action at the state level or other statutory authorization. No fiscal estimate of projected revenue or an implementation timetable was provided at the meeting.
