Ben Hill County to advertise proposed 2022 millage rate of 15.840; special meeting set for July 28

"This year proposed millage rate is 15.840," Merritt said, describing the figure used in the legal advertisement process.
Commissioner Bennie Calloway moved to advertise and proceed with the proposed rollback millage rate of 15.840 and to set a Special Called Meeting to adopt the rate on July 28, 2022 at 6:00 p.m.; Vice‑Chair Hope Harmon seconded the motion. The motion passed with Calloway, Harmon and Chairman Taylor voting in favor. Commissioners Daniel Cowan and John Mooney were absent for the vote.
Earlier in the meeting the commission approved the meeting agenda and accepted minutes from the June 2 workshop and the June 7 regular meeting; those motions carried with the same three commissioners voting in favor and the two absences noted.
The advertisement step begins the public‑notice process required before final adoption. The commission scheduled the July 28 Special Called Meeting to consider final adoption of the millage rate.
Next steps: the commission will hold the advertised Special Called Meeting on July 28, at which members may adopt the millage rate, amend it, or defer action.
