County manager reports revenues on budget, EMS and road-maintenance metrics at May 7 meeting

County Manager Raphel Maddox presented the county's administrative report for January 2024 during the May 7 Pierce County Board of Commissioners meeting.

Maddox told commissioners that revenues and expenditures were on budget through Feb. 28 and that FY2025 budget planning would begin soon; he listed revenue year-to-date figures (General Fund $13,139,426.11; LOST $1,798,948.67; Other Taxes $3,140,191.37). Maddox reported EMS activity for April (collections $63,205.12; YTD collections $211,147.96; 292 EMS calls and 179 transports) and shared fire department staffing and operational updates, including that the department has 68 total personnel (2 full-time and 66 volunteers) and that some station projects are near completion.

Planning & Codes reported 104 inspections and 11 new single-family homes; permit fees received totaled $26,857.29. Facilities Maintenance reported building-system repairs (chiller pump replaced at the courthouse; AC blower repaired at the NFC). The Road Department provided an April summary that included culverts cleaned (15), ditches dug (104), potholes patched (56) and 1,345.42 grader miles logged; special projects listed included Golf Course Rd and Sandy Bottom (pre-bid complete). Maddox also reminded the board of upcoming early-voting dates and Election Day on May 21.

Ending: The manager's report provided operational and financial metrics for commissioners to include in FY25 budget planning; several follow-up procurement actions recorded elsewhere in the meeting will proceed through the county's normal contracting processes.
