The Irwin County Board of Elections & Registrations recommended that the Irwin County Commission renew Chairman Waymond Harris for another two‑year term.
Vice‑Chair Charlene Hutchinson moved that the county commission be asked to renew Harris’s term; Patricia Thurman seconded. The board approved the recommendation 2‑0 with Chairman Waymond Harris abstaining from the vote.
Supervisor Ethan Compton reviewed the board’s term structure under the board’s founding legislation and charter, explaining that members serve two‑year terms that align with the General Assembly and that parties must nominate their board representatives for the commission to confirm. Compton said the Republican and Democratic parties must meet and present nominees to the Irwin County Commission at its Dec. 2 meeting for term renewals taking effect in January 2025; the commission must also confirm the board chair at that meeting.
The board took no public comment and adjourned at 5:40 p.m. The next meeting is scheduled for Dec. 10 at 4:00 p.m.
