Tift Circuit special election canceled after only one qualifying candidate, board told

Irwin County elections officials reported that qualifying for the Tift Circuit district attorney special election was extended due to weather, Interim District Attorney Patrick Warren was the sole qualifier, and the March special election has been canceled pending a formal call-for-cancellation from the Secretary of State’s Office.
At its Feb. 11, 2025 meeting the Irwin County Board of Elections & Registrations heard that qualifying for the Tift Circuit district attorney special election was held Jan. 21–24 at the Secretary of State’s Tifton regional office and was extended because of inclement weather. Interim District Attorney Patrick Warren was the only candidate who qualified; as a result, the March special election has been canceled.
County staff told the board they are still waiting for the Secretary of State’s Office to provide a copy of the official call-for-election cancellation so the county office can post the notice locally. No further votes or local actions were recorded on the cancellation at the Feb. 11 meeting.
