Fayette County accepts $800,000 ARC grant for Sandy Creek Road intersection design

Public Works Director Phil Mallon told the Board the county was awarded an $800,000 federal-aid grant from the Atlanta Regional Commission to fund preconstruction engineering (PE) for improvements at the Sandy Creek Road at Eastin Road/Sams Drive/Trustin Lake Drive intersection (project I-2).
Mallon said the Board had earlier authorized staff to apply to ARC under its Transportation Improvement Program solicitation. He described the project’s estimated total cost at about $5 million and estimated design costs near $1 million, with $800,000 coming from the ARC award. The next step Mallon identified is to present a design contract for Board approval to a qualified vendor.
Commissioner Charles W. Oddo moved to accept the grant and authorize the Chairman to execute the Project Framework Agreement with the Georgia Department of Transportation; Commissioner Eric K. Maxwell seconded. The Board approved the motion 4-0.
Acceptance of the grant enables the county to proceed to final design and later construction phases, subject to future Board approvals for design contracts and construction funding.
