SGRC updates Echols County on hazard mitigation and launches regional transit survey

Alexandra Arzayus, representing the Southern Georgia Regional Commission, presented an update to Echols County’s Hazard Mitigation Plan during a May 1 public hearing, saying she has coordinated closely with the County Manager and community stakeholders to meet requirements set by GEMA and FEMA and to refine mitigation strategies for hurricanes, wildfires and other identified hazards.
Arzayus emphasized the importance of conducting an annual review of the mitigation work program so the county can evaluate and adjust strategies over time. She then provided additional updates on the county’s Comprehensive Plan and previewed a Public Transit Initiative scheduled to launch in July as part of SGRC’s Transit Development Plan.
As part of that effort, SGRC distributed a transit survey intended to gather public input across eighteen participating counties to identify potential service improvements and explore new transit options. Arzayus said the survey is meant to inform planning and better address travel needs in the participating counties.
No formal action on the transit initiative was recorded at the meeting; the presentation and the survey distribution were offered to solicit public input and inform future planning.
