Dooly County leaders re‑organize for 2001, set banks and appoint officials

Wayne J. West was elected chairman and A. C. Daniels vice‑chair at the Dooly County Board of Commissioners’ Jan. 4, 2001 reorganizational meeting, and the board approved a raft of official appointments and administrative housekeeping measures for the year.

Clerk Stephen C. Sanders opened the meeting and presented the 2001 slate that the board approved unanimously, including Stephen C. Sanders as county clerk/treasurer, James C. Lockerman as chief tax appraiser, Tommy Watson Jr. as road superintendent and John N. Davis as county attorney. The board also named Bank of Dooly and Citizens Bank as the official depositories for county funds and designated the News‑Observer as the county’s legal organ.

The appointees approved by the board included representatives to the county’s authorities and boards: Commissioner Charles Anderson was named the county’s civil defense representative and Commissioner Harry Ward was approved to represent the commission on the Board of Health. The board also made multiple re‑appointments to advisory bodies including the Industrial Development and Library boards.
