Vienna resident urges county to adopt noise ordinance after repeated loud‑music calls

At the Jan. 9 meeting John Lee Wolfork of 5875 Highway 230 told the Dooly County Board of Commissioners that deputies had been dispatched repeatedly for loud music at a neighboring property but that the deputy told him 'there is little that can be done in the absence of a County Ordinance.' Wolfork asked the Board to adopt a noise control ordinance to regulate loud music in residential areas.
Clerk Stephen C. Sanders recorded the request and at the Jan. 23 meeting County Attorney John N. Davis and Chief Magistrate Al Willis met with the Board to discuss the issue. Davis said some existing state laws may apply to loud‑music incidents; Chairman Wayne J. West suggested an additional meeting with Sheriff Van Peavy and legal staff before making any formal policy or ordinance changes. No ordinance was adopted in the meetings covered by these minutes; the County Attorney was asked to research legal options and report back.
The matter was raised multiple times in early 2003 minutes as a public‑comment and follow‑up item; the Board treated it as an item for further study rather than immediate policy action.
