At the county’s Jan. 3 organizational meeting Administrator Stephen C. Sanders called the regular Dooly County Board of Commissioners meeting to order and led a brief prayer, and the board completed its annual reorganization and appointments.
Commissioner A. C. Daniels was elected chairman for 2008 after a nomination by Terrell Hudson and a unanimous vote; Hudson was then elected vice chairman following a nomination by Commissioner Harry Ward. The board unanimously approved appointment of county officials for 2008, including County Administrator Stephen C. Sanders, County Clerk Brenetta Childs, Chief Tax Appraiser James C. Lockerman, Road Superintendent Tommy Watson, Jr., County Extension Director Charles E. Ellis and County Attorney John N. Davis.
The board also named Bank of Dooly, RBC Centura and State Bank & Trust as official depositories for county funds and designated The News Observer as the county’s legal organ for public notices.
Why it matters: these annual appointments set the county’s leadership and administrative structure for the year and establish the officials who will implement county programs, manage daily operations and sign documents on behalf of the board.
