Custer County commissioners approve consent agenda, acknowledge resignations and hire deputy

The Custer County Commission amended and approved its Aug. 6 agenda and voted unanimously to adopt the consent agenda, which included payroll and vendor vouchers and the minutes from the July 23 meeting.
Deputy Auditor Barbara Cox informed the commission the county acknowledged the resignation of Deputy Auditor Ashley Johnson effective July 29, 2025. Sheriff Marty Mechaley announced the resignation of 911 dispatcher Elisa Tussing, effective Aug. 7, 2025; the commission acknowledged that resignation. Mechaley also requested and received approval to hire Jim Lyon as a full‑time deputy at an uncertified rate of $25.43 per hour, with a start date recorded as July 31, 2025. The motion to hire Lyon passed unanimously.
During a public hearing the commission approved Retail On‑Off Sale Wine and Cider and Retail On‑Off Sale Malt Beverage and South Dakota Farm Wine licenses for Black Hills Aerial Adventures; no public comments were offered. The commission also approved a travel request for Library Director Sarah Myers and a number of routine vouchers recorded in the minutes.
The meeting record shows motions on these items were moved and seconded by sitting commissioners and that all votes were recorded as "all aye." The next regular meeting is scheduled for 8:00 a.m. on Aug. 20, 2025.
