At its June 25 Committee of the Whole meeting, Gladwin council members received a series of operational updates and handled routine administrative items.
Deputy Clerk Carrie Will briefed council members on community projects and proposed assignments for council participation. During public comment, resident Nancy Bodnar asked why the front steps at Gladwin City Hall have not been painted.
Interim City Manager Kimberly Hines said she has spoken with the police union representative and has been attending planning meetings for the Summer Street Fest, and she told the council she is expecting a good turnout. Council Member Carol Darlington recommended postponing a decision on an FY26 cost-of-living adjustment until July so the full council can consider it.
Volunteers were designated for Household Hazardous Waste Day: Council Members Carol Darlington and Linda Winarski volunteered to serve as greeters, and Mayor Pro Tem Cristy Gutierrez and Council Member Deb Platt said they would also participate. On parks and animal ordinances, Mayor Pro Tem Cristy Gutierrez provided an update on the dog park and noted inquiries about allowing chickens; Council Member Linda Winarski said she has copies of other cities’ ordinances regarding backyard chickens and suggested the Rotary Club coordinate with the Parks and Recreation Committee on dog-park plans.
Interim City Manager Kimberly Hines explained the process for submitting future agenda items: send proposals by email to Mayor Pro Tem Cristy Gutierrez for consideration. The meeting adjourned at 7:15 p.m.
