An email from resident Joe Chavez asking the city to consider updating its ordinance to "enforce jay brakes" on semis was read aloud by City Manager Kimberly Hines during the public-comment portion of Gladwin’s Committee of the Whole on Oct. 16.
Hines said the item should be forwarded to the full council for consideration. Mayor Sarah Kile asked staff to investigate how other municipalities enforce restrictions or standards for large-vehicle braking systems so council can determine whether a local ordinance change is practical.
